Do bathrooms require special paint?

Walls (and ceilings) in bathrooms are exposed to more moisture than in other rooms. Taking a shower creates a lot of steam, and water is often splattered on walls around sinks and near towel racks. In poorly ventilated bathrooms, mold or mildew can even become a problem.

Perhaps you’ve seen bathroom walls that were painted with a glossy paint (for example, a gas station bathroom). Paints with a higher sheen can be more resistant to moisture. But you may not want that look in your bathrooms. No worries!

There are two outstanding paints that I always recommend to homeowners when planning a bathroom painting project. Both are perfect for rooms with high humidity. They have a beautiful matte finish, are resistant to mildew, and are washable. Drops of water splattered on the wall won’t create water stains with these paints. Most bathrooms require no more than one gallon of wall paint, so be sure you invest in a quality paint appropriate for that kind of humid environment. You’ll be glad you did for years to come!

If you need advice on the best paint for your bathroom walls, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m glad to be of help, whether I’ll be your painter, or if you’ll be doing the painting yourself.
