Hire a professional painter, or paint it myself?

Typically by the time a homeowner contacts me, they’ve already decided to hire a professional residential painter. But when does it make sense to consider doing the painting yourself? Some homeowners have plenty of painting experience and a steady hand, as well as the time and patience required to do good painting work. If that’s the case, painting can be a great DIY project. For others, painting can be a frustrating and sometimes messy endeavor.

Having proper, high quality tools makes a huge difference in the outcome, as does knowing how to choose and use paint products that will produce the best results. I’ve painted in quite a few homes where a previous painter accidentally got wall paint on the ceilings, trim and floors, or didn’t apply the paint properly, or chose the wrong type of paint for the task. While it may have been the current homeowner who had a difficult time painting, I never say anything, because everyone deserves an A for effort!

If doing your own painting doesn’t bring you joy and produce beautiful results, you might want to consider hiring an experienced professional painter. If you’ve decided to do your own painting but just need some advice, feel free to be in touch. As with estimates, there’s no charge for advice. I wish success for everyone!
