Do I need to have my ceilings painted?

Your ceilings may be in great shape, and if so, you certainly don’t need to have them painted. Common reasons why people choose to have a ceiling painted are:

  • The ceilings have become a bit dirty over the years, and fresh paint is applied to brighten their appearance.

  • When the walls were painted, the corner line where the top of the walls meets the ceiling was not painted very straight, and a freshly painted ceiling provides an opportunity to reset that paint line.

  • An unattractive paint sheen was used on the ceiling, and you’d like that covered with a high quality ultra-flat ceiling paint.

  • Ceiling repair work/patching was done, and a repainting of the ceiling is necessary.

It is very important to choose the proper paint for a ceiling. There are excellent paints by both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams that I recommend for ceiling painting. Since light from outdoors often streams across ceilings, the ceiling paint needs to have an exceptionally flat and smooth appearance.
